I’m Joanna—a certified K–12 math educator, curriculum designer, and bilingual tutor with a passion for helping students finally feel confident in math.

My journey began in Mozambique, where I taught high school math as a Peace Corps volunteer. In classrooms with no electricity and chalkboard-only instruction, I learned that powerful teaching comes from connection, creativity, and belief in every student’s potential.

Later, I taught through Teach For America in New York City, where I met so many brilliant students who had already decided they weren’t “math people.” I saw how easily kids shut down—not because they couldn’t do the work, but because no one had ever shown them a way that truly clicked.

That’s why I created Liriano’s Lessons.

Because every student deserves math explained in a way that makes sense—to them.

Through 1:1 online tutoring, ready-to-use resources, and short visual lessons, I help students build the confidence and clarity they need to thrive—not just in math, but in how they see themselves as learners.
